Previously used as a stamp-ink box. An existing red ink pad remains inside, with red pigment staining, dark residue and scratches to the interior and lid. A visible seam/open joint is present at one corner of the lid rim. Exterior wear includes oxidation, darkened patina, rubbing and surface marks. The pad is shown in its existing used condition, not as fresh stamping ink.

A familiar card face, with a second life at the writing desk.
A double-ended King of Hearts fills the lid of this rounded rectangular box, framed by repeating heart motifs. Flowers and birds continue around the sides, while the copper-toned surface carries darkened patina and areas of wear. Previously repurposed as a stamp-ink box, it retains a red ink pad and visible pigment traces inside.
The mirrored king and repeated hearts belong to the visual language of European playing cards, bringing a playful, graphic character to a small domestic object. The patterned sides reward a closer look, balancing the strong geometry of the lid with softer floral detail.
Its ink-stained interior records a different chapter: this decorative box was taken into use at the writing desk. That later use is part of its character, with the remaining red pad and pigment traces giving the object a specific, visible history.
European playing-card style, with a double-ended King of Hearts identified by the crowned figure, K initials and heart emblems. The rounded rectangular form, fitted cover, shallow relief decoration and joined metal rim identify a decorative lidded metal box. The red pad and pigment deposits document its later use for stamping ink. The card motif establishes a design style rather than a manufacturing country.
