The story

Deeply cut brows, rounded cheeks and a flowing beard give this carved wooden face an immediate presence. A banded headdress and small leaf-like ornament complete the composition, while the dark polished surface catches the edges of the carving.

This is an object that rewards a second look. The expression changes as light crosses the brows, nose and beard, turning a familiar human face into something theatrical and slightly playful. It brings texture and personality to a wall without needing a large setting.

Attribution note

The reverse photographs show a recessed cavity, visible carving cuts and a mounting opening, consistent with a wooden wall ornament. The seller lists solid wood, but the species is unconfirmed. The headdress and beard do not, by themselves, establish a country, cultural identity or historical figure. Maker and date remain unknown.
