A fragment of Liverpool’s mercantile past.
Heavy, clear glass carries an embossed trade name and place—J.H. Brough, Liverpool—turning an everyday utilitarian component into a compact industrial relic. Its circular form is satisfying in the hand and compelling displayed among bottles, desk objects, or cabinet curiosities.
Before disposable packaging, embossed glass served as both container and advertisement. Names molded into glass linked local merchants to the goods that moved through one of Britain’s great port cities.
Visually assessed as a British molded-glass lid or closure associated with J.H. Brough of Liverpool. The exact original vessel and production date remain unverified; form and wear suggest an early-to-mid-20th-century utilitarian object rather than a modern decorative reproduction.
