The story
Upright ears, a raised tail and wide eyes give the little cat an alert stance. Flowers and winding wirework cover the black-ground body, so the decoration changes as the figure is turned from its face to its flanks.
The black ground allows the coloured blossoms to sit quietly in a room while the eyes retain a playful emphasis. Place it on a small shelf or beside a desk lamp, with enough space to see the tail. It is a decorative object, not a toy.
Attribution note
Chinese decorative export-style cloisonné, plausibly mid-to-late 20th century; seller's export-era attribution is qualified.
